#32 Meaningful organizational routines

In the spring of 2020, we came up with the idea to study what makes organizational routines perceived as meaningful and thus worth upholding. After some pondering, we wrote an application to AFA försäkringar and proposed to study this in primary healthcare, due to the proven importance of routines and the clear risks associated with deviations from them in this context. Combining research on “meaningfulness” and “organizational routines” in the mentioned context showed not only to be the first of its kind but also a successful formula, for which we were granted funding. Given that the research project is soon coming to an end, it was a very happy moment when we today got our first paper accepted for publication in the Journal of Health Organization and Management. The article is called “Meaningful Organizational Routines in Primary Healthcare: Influencing Factors and Their Consequences for Routine Enactment,” and it is written together with the very talented Malin Näsholm. The paper can be downloaded here.

Hopefully, there will soon be more to come!
